That is 131,229 seconds, or 2187 minutes, or, 36 hours, or about 1 day away. Ironically, while most of you are counting down to Christmas, we are counting down to the day of Samira’s surgery Thursday morning.
So to recap, we are dealing with a double aortic arch also called a vascular ring. Essentially, a vascular ring encircles the trachea & esophagus (food & wind pipes) constricting both structures.
Today (FINALLY!) we got to meet & chat with the doctor who will be performing Samira’s surgery. He spent hours with us. Thankfully. There was a lot to go over. Many details; the options, risks, pre-op/post-op expectations, and so much more. So, without boring (or scaring) you all with too many, I will share a few majors;
♥ The surgery is expected to take 2-4 hours. With prep and cleanup- it could be an all day thing for us
♥ Her heart is in perfect ticking condition, aside from this DAA. So while she is still having a heart surgery, she doesn’t have any heart conditions
♥ Dr will be operating from the side of her back vs the front of her chest
♥ In a normal infant, the food & wind pipes would be a few centimeters in diameter, Samira’s is constricted down to a few millimeters
Please keep Samira in your prayers as this day approaches. Also, please pray for the surgeon & our family as well. This will be a LONG day for us. God is omnipresent- we have so much faith that he will be right by side her throughout this operation.
